Hitch was born in a brew pub.
I guess that makes Hitch’s birthday June 26, 2013! (And it shows our love for craft beer.) The idea was born in June, and eight months later, our business opened and has grown into a stylish graphic design, wedding stationery and event planning studio on Main Street of Brookings, SD. Carrie Kuhl and Renee Halgerson opened the doors to Hitch Wedding Studio on February 6, 2014. In the first couple of weeks, we had a Chamber ribbon cutting and made it into three local newspapers (including the front page of the Brookings Register. Mom hung that one on the fridge.) We are the perfect fit for 1.) a small business who needs graphic design work 2.) engaged couples who’d like wedding invitations or help wedding styling, and 3.) anyone who’d like to browse our store full of cards and gifts for sale. (We’re talking GREAT stuff. Well-designed, colorful, unique gifts and typeset cards on the most beautiful paper you’ve ever felt.)
How the love story began.
Hitch is such a fitting name for our business. Carrie and Renee literally “got hitched” when we merged our already successful graphic design and wedding design freelance businesses together to create Hitch. (Formally, we were c.a.kuhl design and Copper Ink Design.) Renee spent over eight years in Sioux Falls working full time as a Marketing Specialist, designing collateral and planning events for SDN Communications, while freelancing for brides and businesses. Carrie has worked at Daktronics for over 10 years, spent two semesters teaching graphic design classes at SDSU, and was a former South Dakota AIGA president, all while freelancing as well. Together, they bring more personality, color, etiquette precision, design expertise and years of experience than the average design shop. We love paper, typography, the meaning of a marriage over a wedding, and branding. We love it all. I guess that’s why we decided to get Hitch-ed.
