An Indoor Wildflower Ceremony at The Atrium in Sioux Falls, SD

The Atrium (sharing a property with Blue Haven Barn and The Retreat venues) easily ranks in the top venues in all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We had the pleasure of helping Maddie and Cody as their wedding planner last weekend! And they LUCKED OUT by getting a beautiful April day!

One thing they decided from the beginning was to have an indoor ceremony. South Dakota weather can be…unpredictable, especially in the spring. I’m sure you’ve read our previous venue spotlight about The Atrium, so this time, we’re going to focus on having an indoor ceremony (and tips for flipping the room seamlessly during social hour), and of course, Maddie and Cody’s beautiful wedding.

To set the stage as we began to plan their wildflower-inspired wedding, it was good to know that The Atrium comes with so many amenities. (plus 10,000 sq. feet of event space with a Tuscan greenhouse-inspired design). All of our insider tips are in bold below!

Included when you rent The Atrium for your wedding:

  • Real Plates + Silverware
  • Busing Staff
  • Water Goblets + Dinner Water Service
  • White Table Linens
  • Cloth Napkins in variety of colors (the napkins shown in the picture were custom-ordered by Hitch Studio Rentals because she wanted a variety of very specific pastel colors)
  • Indoor + Outdoor AV
  • Projector (Maddie and Cody used this for their slideshow of childhood photos!)
  • Full Kitchen with On-Site Food (Chef Tyler, the in-house caterer, is amazing — and even provided a private meal for the couple as they requested!) One tip: You or your wedding party may be allowed to bring in your own breakfast, lunch, wedding cake, & late night snacks with approval.
  • Free access to our Online Planning Software (which Maddie loved because she could move tables around on the software to accommodate last-minute seating chart changes).
  • Drapery (which was PERFECT for sectioning off the indoor ceremony!)
  • Wireless Mics
  • Patio Fire Bench, Patio furniture, Fire Pits, Cocktail Tables
  • Round and rectangle tables with white floor-length linens and black chiavari chairs (with white cushions) for 500 guests.
  • Ceremony terrace seating with pergola (One tip: Although our couple decided to have their wedding indoors, we definitely recommend renting about 50 white folding chairs for an outdoor ceremony so parents, family, and close relatives can sit a bit closer than the terrace seating allows.
  • A 32-foot pergola outdoors. (Overlooking a fountain and landscaped lake!)
  • A 10-foot fireplace as the backdrop to the front of the room
  • Access to the wedding suites and facility as early as 8am until midnight. (One thing to note: they require all food be removed from the bride and groom suites by 2:00 p.m. A wedding planner can help with that!)
  • Table and chair set up and take down: They will have the floor plan set up inside prior to your arrival. Staff will setup + tear down linens, dinnerware, tables, chairs. One tip: These details are great to have your wedding planner be a part of to make sure you have adequate room for DJ, dance floor, the head table layout you want, etc.

Venue add-ons at The Atrium:

  • Dance Floor: $650 includes set-up + tear down (all white or mix black/white)

Spring Wildflower Wedding

Maddie and Cody chose a fun, pastel wildflower color palette for their indoor ceremony and reception. They hired Hitch Studio to make a statement piece floral focal point on the mantle of the fireplace, so it was all their indoor photos and their ceremony. They also did something unique. We suggested adding a grand entrance to their ceremony with a cascade of wildflowers. It was such a pretty view down their aisle!

They chose bud vases full of wildflowers, multi-colored napkins as a pop of color on each table, and tall centerpieces around the perimeter of the room to add some height.

Even her bridesmaids were in fun, spring colors and got the change to take indoor and outdoor photos because it was such a nice spring day! Even though open flame candles are allowed at The Atrium (as long as they are 3-4 inches below the top of a vase or hurricane), we opted for battery tea lights and pillar and taper candles. Less mess, less dripping, less fire hazard, and they are FREE with Hitch Studio’s decorating package!

We did rehearsal the same day as the wedding, which worked out perfectly since Cody didn’t see Maddie with full hair or makeup or in her dress. Their first look was still so special! After the ceremony, while guests were greeted with a full bar at the back of the room, The Atrium staff and Hitch Studio staff flipped their room in less than 20 minutes. Meanwhile, extended family were taking photos with the bride and groom (the perfect 20-minute distraction as we reset the room for the reception!) Shortly after the room flip, we had a private dinner ready for Maddie and Cody in the groom’s suite. They got to have some special time alone to soak in everything from their day.

Because they had already eaten, they got to take a photo with every table in attendance as the guests made their way through the buffet line! We set up our blue settee and each table gathered around for a fun collection of photos! Every part of their day was so thoughtful.

Let’s take a look at their wedding day!

We love The Atrium so much, that we’re going to show you a black and white color palette as well! Haleigh and Landon chose to use the black and white dance floor from The Atrium (of COURSE!) and did a slightly different head table layout than Maddie and Cody. We want to show you all kinds of variety when it comes to Hitch Studio doing your wedding planning and decorating! Haleigh and Landon chose a 1 Carat package, which includes FREE centerpiece and table decor in any style, and includes the set up and take down (and photos of your decor!).

Maddie and Cody chose the 2 Carat package, which has everything in a 1 Carat, but also includes three big things in addition to the decorating: With a 2 Carat, you get full decorating of your reception as well as:

  • Hitch is a part of your ceremony. We attend your rehearsal to make sure everyone is lined up in the correct order, cue the music, make sure any late-comers don’t interrupt your processional during your wedding, and transfer everything (unity, guest book, programs, card box, etc.) from the ceremony to the reception.
  • Full timeline of your wedding day. (When the guys should have their boutonnieres pinned for photos, when Grandparents should be there for family photos, when the DJ is arriving, when the refrigerated cheesecakes should be set out, etc. EVERYTHING is on it to keep your day on track!
  • A centerpiece showcase. We set up 10-20 centerpieces in your exact wedding colors/style and you get to pick what goes on each reception table, head table, guest book table, etc. You get a full key of exactly what’s going where at your reception! This is the really fun meeting that brings your Pinterest Board to life!

And JUST in case you’re curious, our 3 Carat package includes everything from 1+2 Carat, plus Hitch coordinates vendors, keeps you on track with a monthly schedule. We’re there for you all day (from hair and makeup until the end of your dance) — assisting with the timing of important events and helping to keep you on schedule — and every perfect detail in between. This package is perfect for the couple wanting help with events happening during social hour, dinner, the dance and after (clearing chargers or napkins, moving tables to make room for the dance floor, refilling snacks and desserts, late night snack, a dress change, sparklers at sunset, and any other fun “event” happening after social hour. Since we stay until the end anyway, we’re there to take down your decor and pack up your personal wedding items!

Okay — here comes the black and white wedding! (Yes, all those flowers are artificial from Hitch Studio’s collection!)
