How One Couple Made Their Second Marriage So Special

Gina and Tony were one of the most special couples I’ve ever worked with! Both were getting married for the second time, but they found so many ways to make it personal, memorable, and full of a first-time forever kind of love.

Their ceremony was small — only 50 guests at the wedding and reception in McCrory Gardens in Brookings, South Dakota. Then, friends and family poured into the dance to wish them well! Tony’s sense of humor and Gina’s laugh are so contagious. They are easy to admire and the love between them is obvious. (He wiped her tears away during the ceremony and pushed her hair aside. Awwww! Heart = melted.)

Gina put special care into making each part of her day so distinctly personal. She is FAMOUS for her cheesecake, so she made mini cheesecakes for each guest and a large cheesecake for her and Tony! (I maaaay have tasted an extra one in between decorating and coordinating details after the dance — and to confirm — it was the the most delicious I’ve ever had!) She sewed her own table runners. She collected smooth stones for her guest book. Guests wrote a personal note to them on each rock and now the jar of rocks sets in Tony and Gina’s home! What a great guestbook idea. She also decorated each table with Tony’s late father’s antler collection and her card box was Tony’s father’s. They printed little cards and attached them with ribbon to each centerpiece with their favorite lyric from the song in their recessional. Gina’s “something blue” was a fishing lure from Tony (his favorite pastime) and her matron of honor was her sister. It was the sweetest. The world is just better with these two in it.

Their values totally align with our Hitch principles: To value a marriage over a wedding. Hitch was thrilled to help coordinate their ceremony, set up decorations, take down the dance floor and pack up everything for them at the end of the evening, and put out the temperature-sensitive cheesecakes so they were as tasty as possible.  🙂  But at the end of the day, being married is more significant than any decoration.

You hear a lot from me on this blog — Renee Halgerson — as a co-owner of Hitch and wedding styling specialist. But today…drumroll please…it’s a special note from the other co-owner of Hitch Studio, Carrie, as guest at their wedding:

Over the years, I have attended several weddings as a vendor and guest. Each time I feel a special excitement for the couple as they begin the rest of their lives together and the heartwarming love they share is always so visible.
For me, this day was more than that normal heartwarming, excited feeling. Tony and Gina are very dear to my heart, and after getting to know their families a little better and seeing how they interact with each other, it was evident this wedding was going to be unique.
This couple took extraordinary consideration with each detail, making the next more meaningful than then the previous. Creating such a warm atmosphere for each guest and especially the families that were joining together that day. It was apparent this day wasn’t planned to honor only the couple, it was designed to honor their families uniting. What a special occasion to be a part of — it was an honor.

That pretty much sums it up. Their details are perfection. See for yourself…
