When you know, you know

Hello everyone! I am Hitch Design Studio’s newest intern. My name is Katelynn Gebauer but I probably won’t respond to you if you call me that. More commonly I am known as Katie or Kate. This coming school year, I will be a senior at South Dakota State University. My major is graphic design and minors in marketing, advertising and studio arts with a certificate in art history. I know it may seem like a lot, but each one of those embodies a passion of mine, and that’s why I am here!

Back in February 2016, I attended an internship fair held for graphic design students and other similar majors and that’s when I had the pleasure of meeting Renee. The second I sat down in front of her, I rubbed my sweaty palms on my pants, shook her hand, and suddenly I wasn’t as nervous anymore. Renee and I spoke for our quick 15 minute interview and afterwards, I wasn’t interested in any other interviews because when you know, you know. The conversation we had, made me feel joyful about the future! I think the reason I completely immersed myself in wanting this position is because during my interviews, I felt very comfortable and after meeting Carrie, I knew this was the place for me.

Writing this blog post was one of my first tasks of the summer, along with redoing our chalkboard sign that sits in front of the store, designing a new window display to invite customers inside and get acquainted with the all the products Hitch has to offer. I will also be doing the social media for Hitch Studio so if you want to stay connected with what we have going on at the store follow us on Facebook and Instagram — and I’m in charge of updating the Hitch Studio WeddingWire page. I’m already learning so much. I’m not the only intern that Hitch has hired for the summer though; click here to get to know the other wonderful people employed by Hitch.

I can’t wait to dive into the projects I will have at Hitch this summer but feel free to check out my online graphic design portfolio that will be updated continuously, here.

In the future, my dream is to live in the Seattle/Portland area in a studio apartment with a husky named Thor (I’m a big Marvel fan) and hopefully using my design degree in anyway that seems to fit. So far I’ve had the opportunity of working on The Gateway at UNO and currently The Collegian at SDSU, so I love print design but maybe in the future I’ll find myself doing website design or maybe even a museum curator, who knows! One thing is for sure, I’ll probably always have blue hair.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know the customers of Hitch so please stop in and say hello! If you have any other questions, feel free to contact Renee and Carrie, they are amazing to work with!
