Hitch Studio had the absolute honor of planning and decorating a stunning Catholic wedding at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, followed by a reception at the beautifully updated Gate City in Canton, SD.
The Cathedral provided a timeless, sacred setting for the ceremony, while Gate City offered a modern, elegant atmosphere with recent upgrades that made the space both stylish and functional. From start to finish, the day flowed seamlessly — thanks in large part to the incredible owner and staff at Gate City, who were not only helpful but some of the kindest people we’ve had the pleasure of working with.
One of my all-time favorite wedding day requests has to be a private dinner for just the bride and groom. It’s such an intimate, meaningful moment — a quiet pause in the whirlwind of the day where the couple can truly savor their first moments together as newlyweds.
To make this experience as special as it deserved to be, we transformed one of the unused bridal suites into a serene, romantic hideaway. With a sweetheart table, a luxurious black velvet settee, and the warm glow of candlelight, the scene felt effortlessly magical. A few fresh flower bud vases from the Flower Mill added the perfect touch of softness and elegance. It was absolutely dreamy — a moment made just for them, to toast with champagne and soak it all in before the celebration truly began.
I highly recommend carving out time for a private dinner. It gives you a chance to connect, breathe, and just be present with each other before the excitement of the evening unfolds.
This couple had not only a beautiful idea, but the perfect timeline to match. With a 1 PM Catholic Mass followed by photos, they had plenty of time to arrive at the reception, enjoy their private dinner, and then make a grand entrance. The thoughtful pacing of their day also allowed them to personally dismiss tables for dinner, giving them the opportunity to greet and take a photo with each guest — a wonderful way to make everyone feel special.
