Practical Weddings Tips for Grooms

Grooms, we’re here to help. Here are our favorite tips for you on and before the wedding day. They are things that people don’t often talk about, but make a huge difference! We want your wedding day to be perfect…and perfect for YOU and your partner. I think any officiant, photographer, wedding planner, mom, and bride would agree…these tips will help!

  • Stand close enough to hold her hands during the ceremony. Don’t just stand there with your hands in your pockets.
  • Take your time with your first kiss so your photographer and videographer can get the shot!
  • Hug or shake hands with your groomsmen as they come down the aisle.
  • Hug or shake hands with the grandparents and parents you walk down the aisle. It will make wonderful photos.
  • Spend as much of the day with your new spouse as possible. It will go by so fast. Better yet, take time on the wedding day to spend time with just the two of you — even if only for a couple of minutes. Soak it all in.
  • Practice putting on your tie (or make sure a groomsman or dad can help you with it)
  • Keep your pockets empty for photos. No phones, wallets, sunglasses, cans of chew, etc.
  • Practice your vows for the ceremony and speech for the reception. Trust us, winging it never turns out how you’d hope. Not sure what to talk about? Start with these three things: 1. Make sure you thank your parents 2. thank your wedding party and 3. make a big deal about your new partner in life!
  • Cut the string on the tails of your new suit.
  • Steam your shirt and lint-roll your suit. (Consider having a second under-shirt and socks to change into later in the day to freshen up. You’ll get SWEAT-Y)
  • Don’t party too hard the night before the wedding. (Do that at the bachelor party!)
  • Trim your beard. You’ll look like a million bucks.
  • Don’t smash cake in your new bride’s face. She paid a LOT of money for her hair and makeup to look that way! Make it a sweet moment.
  • Live in the moment. You have the people who love you most in the entire world with you that day!
  • This last tip is straight from our team of wedding planners at Hitch Studio: Speak up during the wedding planning process. We WANT your opinions! Don’t love the idea of a receiving line? Say so! They are completely optional. Don’t want to do a garter auction or dollar dance? Voice your opinion. You want to leave enough time the morning of your wedding to golf? Gently bring that up. The food isn’t a big deal, but the DJ and party bus are a high priority for you? Please let us know! What you think is important!
