Bailey Hill: The Newest Member of Hitch Studio, Horse Lover, Adventure Seeker

Hi there! I see you’ve found your way to my first-ever blog post. “Hooray” for you and me!

As Hitch Studio’s newest intern, I feel that I should give you some background on who I am and why I am jazzed to be a part of Hitch.

(In case you’re curious, click here to see the other employees working at Hitch right now — Katie, Danielle, and Taylor.)

My name is Bailey Hill and I am a senior agricultural communications major, with minors in advertising and agricultural business and a certificate in graphic design (a mouthful, I know).

It may seem like an odd combination, but agriculture and design are two of my greatest passions. I grew up on a small ranch in the bluffs of Wisconsin, where fuzzy-nosed calves and spiteful ponies (yes, I love the sassy ones) found a way into my heart. I love them so much that I towed a spiteful pony (but really, he loves me) all the way to South Dakota! My father is the reason that I have held onto the western lifestyle so tightly, and why I plan on having my own ranch someday.

My mother was the first to foster my passion for the arts. She encouraging me to sketch, paint, snap pictures and play the fiddle whenever I could find time (and to an 8 year old, this translated to 5 a.m. while my sisters were still asleep- whoops). Because of this, I have now been sawing tunes and clicking the shutter button for 13 years.

Over the past few years, my major has been barring me from working in the design industry. The requirements of most design positions insist on the applicant having a degree in graphic design or illustration to be considered. Sometimes I feel like my resume is hanging in front of my face, and that’s all employers see. For someone who knows exactly what she wants in a career, these obstacles are especially disappointing.

Carrie and Renee recognized my passions and the capability to build upon those interests through Hitch Studio, not just by looking at my resume, but by having a face to face conversation with me about where I’m at and where I’d like to be.

I cannot express how grateful and excited I am for this opportunity! I already know that the experience I will gain from Hitch will prepare me for wherever I end up after graduation; graduate school, advertising agency, publication design agency or, if I’m lucky, a Hitch-look-alike.

For living-in-the-now purposes, I will enjoy every minute of Hitch’s fun-loving aura. You’ll find me helping out at weddings and events this summer, and at Hitch’s new location soaking up the air conditioning during those sweltering days. I will also be behind Hitch’s social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest), so (unfortunately) you’ll have to look at my plain, nail-polish-free fingers holding new product as opposed to Katie Gebauer’s colorful nails that you are all used to. To be honest, I’m awful at “painting within the lines,” but I’ll try my best to spruce them up!

I look forward to meeting you all, and if you’d like to chat in person about Hitch Studio, bland nails, design or life’s adventures, you’ll know where to find me.
