Choosing Your Wedding Colors and Style (Like This Ocean Blue + Rose Gold Wedding)

Are you trying to choose the perfect color palette for your wedding? It is a big decision. It will set the tone and will be front and center from the first Save the Date you send out — to the last wedding party favor your guests take home. It will all coordinate from the flowers and decorations, to he bridesmaid dresses and other details. Your perfect wedding colors and styled should showcase your personality as a couple!

If you really are in love with one color, it’s a great start. After you know you have one color chosen (for me, it’s this ocean blue color), then I recommend choosing a neutral color to go with it. White, ivory, champagne and gray are all great options. Personally, I chose ivory to soften the look. Next, choose a metal. I recommend gold, silver, rose gold, or copper. Even a combination look like mercury glass/champagne is a terrific option. I chose rose gold with my ivory and ocean blue. Then, I would suggest choosing similar hues for all wedding day details, flowers, dresses, linens, etc. I like to keep this ratio in mind: 60/30/10. 60% of your wedding should be your main wedding color, 30% can be your neutral color, and 10% should be your accent color or metal. Example: Ocean blue + wood/ivory + rose gold + muted blush pink. Those are the colors I chose for the styled shoot below!

You can use slightly different shades of your main colors, or keep everything in the exact hue. Either is fine and can either add flairs of color or keep your gorgeous monochromatic scheme perfectly in tact. Use flowers as an accent color, shoes, decor…the options are limitless!

If you don’t have a color scheme in mind yet, consider your favorite color (mauve), a color that evokes an emotion (bright yellow), or even a style that’s tied to your venue (nautical navy blue maybe). Whether you’re going for a romantic, rustic, woodsy, calming, lake-side or big city, your options are wide open.
