2020, the start of a new decade! So much has happened in a short amount of time. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of plans for many people; especially brides and grooms who are planning their 2020 wedding. But like everything, this too shall past. Take this time to look into possibilities for your 2020 wedding!

If you are getting hitched in 2020, you likely have an idea in your head of what you want your wedding to look like. Whether you have hired a planner or not (although we suggest you do), here is a list of Hitch Studio’s favorite 2020 wedding trends. These trends are guaranteed to take your big day to the next level!

TREND ALERT: Mix & Match Bridesmaids Dresses

Allowing your bride tribe to pick out a dress that makes them feel comfortable and confident is so important! It is so hard to find one dress that your whole wedding party will approve of. Plus, having a mix of dresses adds an extra sense of uniqueness to your wedding. Pick out a color scheme, style (i.e. length or material), and let your girls pick out their favorite dress. Before swiping that debit card, have each bridesmaid check in with you and make sure their dress will go with the style you are picturing!

TREND ALERT: Upping The Bouquet Game

Goodbye to the days of boring and basic floral arrangements! 2020 is all about the details. Adding cascading flowers or greens will add dimension to your bouquet. Another great trend we have been seeing is adding feathers and other unique pieces to your floral arrangements. These two simple steps will add all the difference in your floral game!

TREND ALERT: Garden Ceremony

Although outdoor weddings can be a gambling game, especially in the Midwest, a garden wedding creates an unforgettable ceremony. An outdoor wedding ceremony has wonderful lighting and backgrounds for photos, the garden scene eliminates the need for excessive décor, and can seat a high volume of guests!

When planning a garden wedding there are a few things to keep in mind when booking the venue. 1. Is there an indoor option in case of foul weather? 2. How far will my guests (especially older relatives) have to walk to get to the ceremony spot? 3. What time of year is the best option for weather and peak flower season?

TREND ALERT: Unplugged Ceremony

Although we are stepping into a new decade, this trend is throwing it back to times before technology. A very popular trend that we love to get behind is an “unplugged” wedding ceremony. Before entering your wedding ceremony, guests will be invited to turn their phones off and keep them out of reach during the ceremony. This allows for the photographer/videographer to get the best shots possible without having the disruption of guests with their cameras out. It also ensures your guests are staying present and in the moment for your big day!

TREND ALERT: Mood Lighting

A touch that seems so simple, yet is so important, is good lighting. Low lighting creates a more intimate and can make your guests feel more relaxed during the dinner and reception. A great way to add more low lighting throughout your wedding is by adding bistro lights, candles, and diming down the venues overhead lighting.

TREND ALERT: Boho Styled Weddings

You have seen glam, country, and modern wedding styles in the past. But, 2020 is the year of the bohemian wedding! Woven décor, earthy details, tons of floral pieces, jewel touches, and focusing on the details are so in this year. Set yourself apart by creating an intimate, enchanting, and unique boho inspired wedding!

TREND ALERT: Seating Remix

A trend that is soon to hit the Midwest is unique seating during the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner. Take your big day to the next level by changing up traditional seating! Utilize your reception space by renting some comfortable seating for cocktail hour, introduce different styles and sizes of dining tables for dinner, and unite your guests by having a circular wedding ceremony!

TREND ALERT: Interactive Entertainment

Unique is a very important thing to be! You want your wedding to be a memorable and fun day for everyone. A great way to insure that your wedding stands out is by providing some unique sources of entertainment and memories for you and your guests. A great idea that we hope to see more of in the future is caricature artists at weddings. Imagine attending a wedding and getting to take home a keepsake as special as a hand sketched drawing! Move over old fashioned party favors, there is a new guest favorite in town!

TREND ALERT: Instagram-Worthy Backdrops

Wow your guests by creating a statement backdrop piece where guests can get together and capture a few photos! This is a great way to set your wedding apart. Photo backdrops allow for you and your guests to grab some fun and relaxed photos throughout the night. We can’t wait to see this trend grow in 2020!

TREND ALERT: Traditional Wedding Cake Alternatives

Cutting into your wedding cake is perhaps one of the most common American wedding traditions. Although we don’t want to see this go, a majority of wedding cakes go uneaten costing you a fortune. Want your cake and eat it too? Have some alternative desert options!  Start with a small scaled cake for you and your spouse to cut into for photos (and tradition purposes), but offer other dessert options your guests will enjoy without breaking the bank! Or you could offer a fun wedding favor!

TREND ALERT: Accessorize Your Updo

A trend we see arising into 2020 is accessorizing your wedding hairstyle! Adding simple touches such as decorative pins or flowers can add MAJOR attitude to your wedding day style! Below are some of our favorite bold hairstyles:

TREND ALERT: Sparkler Send Off

What better way to end your wedding nights then being surrounded by friends, family, and sparklers? We LOVE the growing trend of a sparkler send off! This allows for you and your spouse to say farewell to everyone who made your big day special. Plus, it creates a background for beautiful photos. We’ve also coordinated sparklers at sunset or even a sparkler entrance!

TREND ALERT: Classic Invitations

We’re seeing stationery sets with a mix of script fonts and serif fonts. Flowers are a favorite — and so are embellishments like sparkle bands, pockets, and charms!

TREND ALERT: Memorable Favors

Leave your guests with even more than a spectacular night! Send them home with cute gifts. You can never go wrong with food (think little jars of honey, little bottles of hot sauce, packaged cookies with grandma’s recipe, little homemade caramels, a signature treat from your hometown, etc.) This couple chose to do succulents AND little bags of candy! You could also have bags of treats “From Our Pup To Yours”.
